Many young people choose to take a year out between finishing school and starting university in order to gain work experience or to travel. The experience of non-academic life this offers benefits the individual when they return to education. To what extent do you agree or disagree? I completely agree with the idea of being out from studies traveling or working before starting university as a way to gain life experience and to become a more mature person. Having experienced different kinds of works and traveled to different cities or countries gives young people a wide sight of the real life through putting them in contact with older people and the issues they are handling. For example, working in NGO could definitely give them a wholly new perspective to the issues that other societies are facing. Rather than just accumulate pure academic facts it would be useful to society that all this new generation equipped with all this knowledge would better empathize with the struggles and would find ways to solve them throughout their academic life. Getting to know another people while traveling is also a perfect way to switch a self-centered world’s vision, which is a common flaw in young people, to other in which they can appreciate society as a whole and the role they are playing within. It has also to be said that many young people do not have a clear view about what kind of profession they are going to be studying and with this in mind it would be quite useful to have some work experience before to make a definite decision about their own future. We, as society, gain with this practice, due to both more empathetic people and better students with a factual knowledge about issues in society.
