What does 'make' mean here? -our choices of words make sense to us, and so it seems that we must make them for a reason. Thanks!

The second 'make them' in the second part, means 'make our choices'. In English there are words with similar meanings like 'lovely', 'pretty', 'beautiful', but if you have to choose one there will be a reason for it.

If something makes sense, it means that it's logical. I don't really understand the latter part of the sentence.
