I lowkey supported Portugal before because of Ronaldo, but it went south as some of you might know. đ So now, Iâm kinda supporting England. Iâve started having a strong feeling for this team since they beat Germany a couple of days ago. Iâm not qualified to say this because I only watch highlights on YouTube, but something tells me that they are really passionate and united.Â
I read somewhere online that the England national team used to be divided 10 years ago when star players like Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney were in the squad. This was because their rivalry in the Premier League was so intense that they put priority on the performance of their clubs over that of the national team. I think Rio Ferdinand once said they didn't even talk to each other in training unless they were in the same club or something.Â
Now, on the other hand, this culture has pretty much disappeared, and young English players, unlike their predecessors, donât hold a grudge against each other and work together as a team. (Also, I think football fans no longer âpressureâ good players to be loyal to their clubs. This might have also contributed to the weakening of the toxic culture I mentioned before.)
Besides, the squad of England, especially forwards, is amazing: Kane, Sterling, Rashford, Foden, Grealish and Sancho...What kind of dream âFIFAâ team is this? With this squad, they kinda have to be good. lol. I really envy this squad because Sonny is the only world-class player on our team. đ
Well, letâs see how things go! I hope this post doesnât age like cheeseâŠđ

I think saying "on the squad" is more natural than "in the squad". I also think saying "on the same club or something" is more natural than "in the same club or something". It's difficult to describe, but I feel like the context changes when it sounds natural to say "in".
