Have you listened to "Deli, Van, Picasso" by the Korean rapper, Beenzino? It came out in 2013, almost 8 years ago, but is still one of the songs that comes to mind when I think of his iconic tunes.
It's a jazzy, moody hip-hop track where Beenzino compares himself to artists like Salvador Dali, Van Gogh and Picasso (and 2 Chainz 😂) when he writes lyrics. Since Beenzino majored in art and was well known for his background as an artist himself, the lyrics were really powerful to me. Speaking of which, whenever I listen to Beenzino's old songs, I can picture certain images in my head. And "Deli, Van, Picasso" is definitely one of the songs where his lyrics and artistic background shine. 👍🏼
So check it out if you haven't yet! :)
*The only downside to this song is the fact that the beatmaker sampled part of "Alone Together" by Chet Baker without permission, claiming (illegal) sampling was part of hip-hop culture. It kinda made me feel sick because it was a norm for major American hip-hop musicians to pay a ton of money to clear samples even back then. On the other hand, the rules on clearing samples were not strict in the Korean hip-hop scene until the early 2010s. You would be surprised if you knew how so many OG Korean rappers had ripped off songs. 😂
