Hi Christina I'm not spanish but here what I have found as explanations.
When matter is a noun, and when there are many kind of matters, in reference to various types of matters then the plural form is matters.
Examples:
One matter has been dealt with.
Two matters will be fixed going forward.

And Fashion matters means "la moda importa"; I think matter is a verb in this case. And the verb takes an -s with the third-person singular form.
