I rather get complaints that I do not look at my phone. Like I texted you a few hours ago, why don't you react. I dislike smart phones. I do not want to be connected like the Borg all of the time, have some private time and space where I cannot be disturbed. The phone interrupts. Applications even go loony when you try to shut them off. Every time I start the thing now e.g. some messenger prompts me with: are you sure you do not want to receive messages unless you yield them yourself. No I do not. I tell my friends, expect me to call you back maybe today or tomorrow, but not sooner. My phone can lie in the corner without current for a day.
Do you spend too much time on your phone? ("plenty of" suggests it's OK and not a problem) I'll assume that "spending too much time" means "spending unnecessary time".
Try setting some little rules for yourself. Here are a few examples:
- Only reply to messages within certain hours, eg. between 10 am and 10pm, unless it's an emergency such as death or hospitalisation.
- If you're with other people, don't use your phone unless you plan to show those people your phone. Leave the room if you need to deal with personal calls or messages.
- When you're in bed, leave your phone out of reach. This means: if you want to use your phone, you must get out of bed and walk across the room (or even out of your room) to pick it up. Read a book in bed. :)
A recent survey asked phone users to guess how many hours per day they were using their phones.
The actual number of hours turned out to be double the hours that the users had guessed.
Too much, too much...
