Can you predict a person's personality by looking at their face?
I know it's an outrageous and absurd question to ask or even think. Why I am asking it because I saw a post where a guy asked that his boss had a project to build a tool that can predict the personality of a person just by analyzing their face. It might help their Hrs to select worthy candidates without any difficult or spending mush time reading their CV. So, he was in a dilemma whether it was good to be a part of the team or not as it sounds really racist and sexist to just predict if someone is worthy to have the job by their facial identity!
I know that the AI and ML are gaining momentum. They are quit good at predicting and forecasting weather but do we really think that it is possible to predict someone's nature and personality just by talking a glance at their faces?
They might be using some complex algorithm to predict different things but they have't yet realized we human are beyond all those algorithms.
Sometimes I wonder we are trying so hard to know our intelligence using our very intelligence:D
Well, we can predict what a person is going to buy tomorrow at Walmart using some algorithm, but it's difficult to predict whether they will wake up with a smiling face or getting grunted in anger!
What's your view on this?
BTW, don't try to predict me, I am unpredictable!:D
Have an amazing day!:)

Sometimes yes, provided it's not a posed photo. But then even posed photos often fail to hide subtler clues. The science and art of kinesics (body language, expressions and looks) include things like glances, face tilts, false versus true smiles, lip - eye discordance and certain other things like subconscious postures that often provide good clues, but for a more accurate reading some form of interaction with the person / observing how they interact with others is essential. It is not foolproof but still possible. As for algorithms we aren't yet at that development level of AI but someday it may well be possible.

It is face, not butt. So why outrageous?
As about the guy, no, I think such an algorythm wouldn't change the world to better.
P.S. thinking more about this, nothing outrageous about butts either. We just don't look at them often enough.

I would say 50% Yes. In some cases, what you see is what you get, however some people aren't what they seem

I think it is possible to find out some traits of character and possible behaviour according to the face, but it is not accurate of course, just some hints, some things about which it is needed to think. Conversation is needed anyway, gestures, nonverbal things will tell even more than words.

Isn't this called Physiognomy?

The Chinese version of Physiognomy can tell someone's future too.
