English test: Which one based on these facts?
Hello everyone. I'm planning to take an international English test to apply to a master program abroad. Most of universities I have been looking for accept the TOEFL, IELTS and PTE tests. I would like you to recommend me one of them based on certain things:
> I have problems to stay focused > When I hear other people's noises, I get easily distracted. I don't know if you take the tests in the same room with other students, so you can hear them during the speaking part for example.
> I'm more use to the American accent. Other, like the Australian one, can be very difficult to me.
> I have a bad short memory, so I prefer answering the questions right in the moment to avoid forgetting the answer.
> The listening and speaking parts are the hardest to me -especially the speaking-.
> I prefer to take the test in one take!
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

I took the Cambridge English test and I hope to help you:

Yes, you take all parts of the test with other students, but don't worry, during the exam there will be dead silence. Besides, there will be a schedule, for example from 8 to 9 you'll take the listening part, from 9 to 10 the reading part. The schedule of the exam is the same for each candidate.

Like Lana said, TOEFL is an American test, so it's more likely that the listening part are with an American accent.

You have all you need when starting the test. You can answer right away without any problem

I suggest training yourself. For the listening part you should watch some videos with subtitles on: little by little you will get the hang of it and you will start to understand even without the subtitles. If you want, you can also practice with actual recording taken from old exams or made expressly for practicing. You can easily find them online. About the speaking part, you should get a language partner, it's the only way to practice

If i do remember correctly, the exam is in one take except for the speaking part, which will be the last one.

25 listopada 2019

For standard American accents, take the TOEFL. The other two exams have all sorts of exotic, non-standard British and Commonwealth accents.

You should improve everything you are not confident in, because these things may cause problems in future studying in any university.
TOEFL is more like a test exam with short portions of information that you have to process, so probably this is a better option.
Speaking part in TOEFL is splitted into several short answers, you will speak 3-4 minutes overall, while in IELTS you speak 10-12 minutes with a tutor. I didn't do computer IELTS test, I can't tell how long does the speaking part take there.
You do TOEFL with a headset on and share a room with other students, so you will hear them. People start at different time after registration, they check the equipment recording voice clips, so it can be quite noisy even at the beginning. And yes, everyone is speaking out loud when it comes to a speaking part.
If you have a paper IELTS exam, you may be nervous too, because you should turn paper sheets, while in TOEFL you get the tasks on the screen. Besides, they use speakers for the entire room during the listening part, which may be not perfect and affect the sound.

Hi. TOEFL is made in the US so there is definitely a higher probability of hearing American accent rather than in IELTS or Cambridge exams.
Any language exam contains a listening and a speaking part, so if these are your weakest points, I'd suggest focusing on improving them.
