POWERFUL questions: The Art of making thought-provoking questions.
I was preparing for a class, when I saw a TED talk discussion about how to ask powerful questions. Every day, I make a list of questions from various sources and most I needed to create on my own. Advanced learners need good questions, and they need questions that will challenge their minds. However, as Allen Saakyan mentioned, “Creating questions is hard work” and it is hard work. I have been creating discussions based on questions that I create from experiences and information that I see on the internet. Introspection helped a lot but you also need to read a lot and your mind must be a sponge.

In his TED talk Allen had an interesting introduction. He was talking about attention, and he went on by saying that attention is the “most valuable commodity” in the world. Companies spend millions of dollars on marketing alone to get our attention. That is also the role of thought-provoking questions, these are questions that attract our attention. Allen is obsessed with powerful questions that titillate the mind, and he wants to attract the curious intellectuals into a debate. What is time? What is consciousness? How do we modernize politics? What do we do about wealth and equality?

He said that thought-provoking questions are usually the most challenging, but it is also the one gives the most insights. He mentioned that emotional intelligence is quite important in creating good questions. In addition, Syntax is also quite important because you will elicit different types of responses. Lastly, he mentioned that most people are black, and white with most issues. A good example is that some people are Pro immigration and some are against it. More importantly, It is important to ask questions that matter to the heart.

Allen gave useful insights about the topic on how to ask powerful questions. My formula is more simple. “Be curious, ” be naturally curious. A curious person is someone who always seek answers and knowledge and from that I practice a lot. Whenever I see just a quote on Instagram, I start asking questions from that, it is both talent and a skill.
