English literature

I want to read something in English, but I don't know what books are interesting and are not very difficult to read. I would like to read something popular in original language, but i don't even know what books are bestsellers now.

So, anybody help me, please.

What about Harry Potter?

There needs to be an edit function. I wanted to add something about availability.

You might have to have Ian Irvine books shipped if you are outside Australia.

Wilbur Smith and Harry Potter books are all available in many languages, if you want to compare the translations.

All Animorphs books are available online for free at: http://animorphsforum.com/ebooks/

These are all books/series/authors I've enjoyed throughout my life. I found all of them entertaining:

Deltora Quest (for kids, 11 books spread across 3 series, by Emily Rodda)
Animorphs (for kids or a light read for teenagers, 54 books, by K. A. Applegate)
The Keys to the Kingdom series (light read for teenagers, 7 books, by Garth Nix)
Old Kingdom series (for teenagers, 3 books, by Garth Nix)
Harry Potter series (for teenagers, 7 books, by J.K. Rowling)
Any Matthew Reilly novel (light adult to adult, but is also popular among teenagers)
Three World Cycle (for adults, 11 books split between 2 quartets and a trilogy, by Ian Irvine)
Any Wilbur Smith novel (for adults, he has been writing since 1964 and is still writing, is popular with people up to age 60).

My 'adult' standard is something that I imagine is at the level of average 20-25 year olds, but are not heavy reads.
My 'kid' standard is something I imagine a dedicated 10-12 year old could read in an afternoon or two.
I put the list in order of most difficult to read to least (as far as I can tell).

Feel free to ask me about anything here.

A few questions for you:

1. What kind of books do you enjoy reading? Fiction, non-fiction?

2. What genre of books do you prefer?

3. What level of reading are you currently at? College-level? Grade school?

4. Do you want to read classic literature or modern literature?

After you answer those questions, then decide how you want to find and obtain a book. When you know what kind of book you want, you can begin searching for a specific book.

You can start with a library, which is best, of course because the books are free. Or start with some searching on Amazon.com, or GoodReads.com.

Or, you could start searching for books that are similar to books you've already read and enjoyed.

Personally, I loved this little-known science-fiction/fantasy series of books called The Inheritance Trilogy. The first book is The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms.

Here's are some links:

On Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6437061-the-hundred-thousand-kingdoms

On Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Hundred-Thousand-Kingdoms-Inheritance-Trilogy/dp/0316043923

Good luck!

A doubt there can be something both 'popular' and 'easy to read'. Popular books are meant for native speakers who already know a lot with respect to language and culture in question. As a starting point, try "Project gutenberg". There are a lot of free text out of copyright by now. They have category search and a "Top 100" list.
