How to learn a new language?

How to learn a new language?

How to remember some words? It's too hard for me!

I am an office worker, if I want to remember 1) this words that can only spend part of 2) rest times. But now, the question is I forget it faster!

3)I'm not clever! So what? 4) the only thing I can do, that must remembered it again and again.

every day, every hours, and every minute is important.

1) "these" is a better choice, this is used to indicate a single thing close to you and these is the plural form which matches with words

2) Rest can either mean time off from labor or the remaining amount. It would be more clear to say "I am an office worker, if I want to remember words I must study during my break time."

3) Clever does not matter, you speak Mandarin well enough to use it professionally. As an adult learner we forget that it takes years to learn how to speak a language.

4) The first letter of the first word in a sentence is capitalized.

5) Suggestion: there is a free program called Anki that is available for computers using the android or Windows operating system. It is a spaced repetition system (SRS). You go through the flash cards to rank how hard it was to remember a word. The harder words turn up more frequently as you go through the list. I use Anki but there are others like Memrise or mnemosyne and the cost varies depending on how much you want to do yourself. Also develop a list of 500-1000 English words. Tim Ferriss has a list ofthe 300 most common words in English and the 6 sentences to use to get an idea of English grammar on his website. Then start writing down a list of the things in your life, and finding out the words in English of the items in your life, e.g. chair (椅子), bathroom (浴室). I don't speak Mandarin, I just got this from google translate.

Yes, basically most people who start studying language after they finish university have more difficulties with learning and concentrating on studies. I started studying English intensively on paid english courses with american teacher when I was in university and in one year I learned to speak better than my school and universities classes taught me to speak. I literally thought about english the whole day. I even thought in english. I revised some words a few times a day. Now I'm an office worker too and I have no time for thinking about it, not to mention studying it. Besides, after work I return home and study Japanese, which makes it all a lot more complicated. The only advise is you should try to use English in as many spheres of your life as possible.

Hi! It is very interesting question. My first meeting with english language was very bad, boring, etc. because of the teacher... Then I didn't learn so much. It was one lesson in the school and that all. After I met a brilliant english teacher on a training. Our class learned so much by this teacher and I saw in myself, mybe I understand one or two words, after sentences... It was my first good memory with this language. But this training finished and I stopped language learning. Now I start again. Now I learn in university in between I work so I have no time for an english course. But I decided I want to speak/learn english again. So I looking for a private english teacher, and we meet every week once or twice. I want only speak with this teacher, and it was very good decide. :) We discuss that, Teacher guess a theme, I get ready for this theme, and we talk for this next time. But I don't want to be boring, so try to guess funny answers for her questions... E.g. Every week she ask me: "How was your day? What did you do in weekend?" My answer: "I dived in the see, I saw a lot of shark... or I travelled to Disney Land..." And we enjoy our time together. It is so funny. :D And I bought a lot of english book. E.g. novels, dramas, etc. It is very useful. ;) Ps: sorry when I have a lot of mistakes. :) Greetings, Andi
