I Hate GRE Today, I just wanted to complain about one thing that has been bugging me for a few months. It's GRE!!! I am student who hates all kind of standardized tests. I can't do it very well. Is that mean I'm stupid? I don't know how to excel in these kinds of tests. I feel like this expensive GRE is too difficult for ESL student like me. I have been studying in American college for almost four years and I am sure I can survive in college that use 100% English, but I do not understand if I failed GRE, will it mean that I will not be able to handle whatever grad school is going to teach me? Does English used in grad schools are very difficult like the one used in GRE. If it is then I will never be able to succeed in grad school because I can't even get a good score on GRE. Sigh... Feel free to express your opinion based on my story or correct my English. :)

I Hate The GRE

Today, I just wanted to complain about one thing that has been bugging me for a few months. It's the GRE!!! I am a student who hates all kinds of standardized tests. I can't do it don't do very well on them. Is Does that mean I'm stupid? I don't know how to excel in these kinds of tests. I feel like this expensive GRE exam is too difficult for an ESL student like me. I have been studying in at an American college for almost four years and I am sure I can survive in a college that use 100% English.  but I do not understand, if I failed the GRE, will it mean that I will not be able to handle whatever grad school is going to teach me? Does Is the English used in grad schools are very difficult like the one English that's used in the GRE. If it is then I will never be able to succeed in grad school because I can't even get a good score on the GRE. Sigh...

I think almost anyone would agree that standardized tests are not accurate measures of "intelligence" per se.  Standardized tests really only measure how well you can take a standardized test.  Because of this, don't worry about how much you know or don't know.  Just focus on learning HOW to take the GRE.  There are tips and websites and books about how to tackle this test. You'll find some good information here: http://www.princetonreview.com/grad/gre-test-preparation.aspx, as well as in The Princeton Review's book "Cracking the GRE".

Doing well on the GRE only means that you took the time to figure the test out and perform the way the test makers wanted you to.  It does not neccessarily mean that you can or cannot handle graduate school.  I would not worry that you cannot handle graduate school if your studies have been successful so far.  A better indication of if you can handle grad school is if your teachers think you can succeed in graduate school.
