Skyscrapers
Hello everyone !
When you think of skyscrapers, you probably think of cities like New York, Shanghai or Dubai, don't you? But London also has some tall, thin (narrow) buildings, with nicknames like the Gherkin, the Shard and the Walkie Talkie, which are irreverent British nicknames. Do you like them ? In a way they are quirky and rather amazing to see, but not everyone loves them. In the past 20 years, a huge amount (a great number) of skycrapers have sprung up in the city (cities).
For many years, the tallest building in London was Saint Paul's Cathedral. It has been was built (erected) in 1708. Nevertheless, now, Saint Paul's Cathedral is now dwarfed by a lot of (several nearby) buildings (nearby). It is a modest 111 meters high compared to the other buildings in central London. Some say that they(who?) obstruct sidelines the skyline, they and block the views of some older landmarks. According to them (to whom?), they also threaten British identity. Some think they are sîmply plain ugly. Scores of new buildings have just thrown up in the city while some people throw up while they see them (while looking at them).
What do you think of them ? Do you think they are amazing ? Do you (rather) think that they threaten the British identity of the City of London ?
Thanks a lot for your answers and don't hesitate to correct my mistakes :)
