I joined Japanese event of Mochitsuki. Mochitsuki is pounding steamed rice to make rice cake. Mochi means rice cake, Tsuku means pounding. Then we ate rice cake, it has three flavors, soy sauce, Kinako, and Anko. It was good. In Japan we eat rice cake in new year.

"Mochi" means rice cake and "tsuku" means "to pound" since you are using the verb root form. pounding. Then we ate rice cake, of course it is for consumption. State the purpose if it is not.
