IELTS (Academic ) Writing Task 2: Childhood obesity IELTS (Academic ) Writing Task 2 question: Childhood obesity is becoming a serious problem in many countries. Explain the main causes and effects of this problem, and suggest some possible solutions. Nowadays, in many countries, especially developed countries, obesity is becoming a serious health issue among children which has been threatening their physical, emotional and social health. There are many factors that contribute to this problem, and it’s the responsibility for parents, schools and society to work together to address this issue. There are two main reasons to blame for childhood obesity. Firstly, children are exposed to a wide range of choices of unhealthy food and beverage that seized their appetite, and they consume them on a regular basis, which make them pile on weight. Secondly, they are not getting enough physical activity. They spend most spare time playing computer games, watching TV and other screen devices. They tend to lead a sedentary lifestyle which could worsen their weight problems. Children with obesity are more likely to develop chronic health conditions and diseases, like asthma, type 2 diabetes or heart disease. Furthermore, they will be bullied and teased more than their normal weight peers, and more possibly to suffer from social isolation, depression and lower self-esteem. It calls for the collaborative effort of the society to tackle this problem. Parents should help their children to establish good diet habits and control what they eat. School can adopt policies and practices that help the students to eat more fruits and vegetables, move high-calorie, low nutrition food and beverage from school cafeterias, and encourage students to exercises more. Moreover, limitations should be imposed on unhealthy food and beverage advertising by the government to mitigate their influence on children’s diet choice. In conclusion, obesity is now posing a threat to children’s health in many countries, but there is still hope to cope with it by the joint effort of families, schools and society.

Nowadays, in many countries, especially developed countries, obesity is becoming a serious health issue among children which  who has have been unknowingly threatening their physical, emotional and social health. There are many factors that contribute to this problem and it’s the responsibility for of parents, schools and society to work together to address this issue.
