Hello Elizabeth,
Good question. There is a slight difference in meaning. 👇
For work : for my job/ to go to work
To work: I'm preparing to start a work activity.
Example:
Q: " Why are you wearing boots?"
R: " I'm getting ready to work on my garden project."
Hope that clarifies the subtle difference.
Take care,
Liz GB 🤓✌️

“I’m getting ready for work” is much more common. It refers to someone’s normal daily routine. It would include showering, dressing, doing your makeup, etc.
But if you say “I’m getting ready to work” you may be doing something more specific to prepare yourself for the work you need to do.

'I'm getting ready for work.' We say this when we're getting ready at home in order to leave the house and go to work. Work here is viewed as an event, hence, the use of 'for.' It's equivalent to 'I'm getting ready to go to work.'
'I'm getting ready to work' is also a valid phrase, but it's more general. Here, work is more like an activity. If someone works from home, they may say this instead of using 'for,.' It's more or less an equivalent to 'I'm getting ready to do work.'
