what's the "not so far off the mark" mean?
a sentence as bellew:
"To be sure, experts' evaluation of the technical flaws in sound experiments was not so far off the mark"
how to understand about "not so far off the mark"?
thank you
on the mark = to be 100% correct

Variations of this are:

etc

"not so far off the mark"
Not far = close to
so "not so far off the mark" means the experiment results were close to the mark.
in another way : Technical flows were very close to the agreed value.
hope it helps :)

This is a term which probably comes from target practice or hunting.
Mark - Target to shoot at
Not so far off of - close to
It is close to the target...
