A "ted talk"?
What is the meaning of the word "ted" in the following sentence?
Cited from On The Fast Track:
"How do you know if you've lost the audience at a "ted talk"?
"If you see too many faces lit up as they check e-mail."
Does it mean tedious?

TED is an organisation. They organise big annual conferences where inspirational speakers give talks on a wide range of topics. So a TED talk is a presentation or talk given at one of these conferences. The aim is to spread good, imaginative or even crazy ideas to get people thinking. TED is fantastic. You can watch all of the past TED talks here: www.ted.com
Just choose the topic you are interested in.

I had to look this one up. It stands for technology, entertainment, design. Apparently it is a talk given in front of a group of people that is meaningful and worthwhile. Here is an excerpt from a blog. These are the ways a Ted talk differs from a normal speech.
" •Inspiration makes a TED Talk special
•A TED Talk isn’t a presentation, it’s a performance
•It’s not what the person says, its how it makes you feel
•A TED Talk is all about storytelling
•When speaking make eye contact, speak slowly, and move around on the stage
•“Communication is the transfer of emotion” – Seth Godin"

this is where you can sign up for creating an event. It actually lends itself well to world knowledge. Thanks for mentioning this. I didn't know it existed.

Maybe it means "talk in informal language", or "an honest talk" where you have to tell only the truth...
