I'm not an expert on "street women", but this statement seems like a biased generalization to me. I would question the source. I personally don't think it's true, and my guess is that most Americans I know would also disagree with it, especially women. I think it's similar to saying, "Most Chinese girls who wear jeans are westernized." It might be true in some cases, but in many more, it's not true. I would guess that street women do dress up because that is one way they advertise themselves, but there are many more women who are not "street women" that dress nicely, including wearing black silk stockings with the appropriate outfit. If I saw a woman walking down the street in black silk stockings, I would not automatically think that woman is a street woman. If they were near a theater district, I might assume they are going to the symphony or theater. If they were near a nice restaurant, I might think they are going to eat there. On the other hand, in certain places known for street women, if I saw a woman walking back and forth alone on the street, dressed in a short skirt, with or without black stockings, I might wonder if she is a street woman. It really depends on the context. This is all just one American's opinion. Keep in mind that unlike China, America is a very diverse country. Where I live, near San Francisco, there are towns where more than 50% of the students in schools are Asian, many of them of Chinese descent. The students and their parents are Americans with US passports, but they speak Mandarin at home. They are just as American as any other US passport holder, but their thinking is more like Chinese nationals than Caucasians. In many places near the Mexican border, there are many Americans who speak Spanish as a first language and think like Mexicans, Nicaraguans, Costa Ricans or wherever they are originally from. In Florida, there are many from Cuba and other Caribbean countries. In the US Northeast, there are many Europeans, etc. Because of this diversity, it's difficult to generalize on much in the US - there are always many exceptions. I hope this helps :)

It would surprise you how few girls show their legs in America. It is not the normal thing to do (in most of America.) Even the girls with nice legs do not, because it is not the fashion. We would need to be healthier for it to become the fashion. American girls would ware the stocking that Chinese girls do- if they had the legs that chinese girls have. They do not so they do not.
