Where Are You From? This innocuous question, frequently asked during our travels has led me to ponder, possibly too deeply, what national identity means.

Nowadays lots of people consider that our mentality and behavior depend on the nationality. On the contrary, many others are sure that personal qualities are more important than national belonging. Who is right? Let us examine some of the reasons for such difference in opinion. In my opinion, the way of thinking depends on individuals' characteristics which he/she has absorbed during his/her life. Firstly, due to living in modern and free society everyone has many opportunities for choosing personal way of thinking and behavior, regardless of religious, ethnic and other beliefs. Secondly, we live in a multicultural country, so almost everyone has not got an exact national belonging. However, some people do not share my opinion and stay convinced that people’s nationality influences on their way of thinking, because features of a particular nationality are always handed down from generation to generation. Furthermore, mentality depends on ethnic and local particularities and culture. But personally, I do not agree with it, because in age of developed international relations people do not pay attention on nationality of each other. Moreover, people have a lot of chances for education and development of their own characteristics. To conclude I would like to point out that despite the fact that some people believe that nationality determines the way we think, there are many others who do not support this point of view. Thereby confirming that only personal qualities have an influence on the way of thinking. Its a controversial question, I wish that everyone can make a good choice according to common sense
