For example,这是一支铅笔。（This  is a pencil）
那是一头猪。（That is  a pig.）

These two words  这个～，那个～ is not only for describing the building(建筑)，here are some sentences as follows:
这个建筑很漂亮。This building  is very beautiful.
这个人长得超帅。This guy is super handsome.
那个东西我已经扔掉了。That thing has been thrown away by me.
那个相机售价1000元。That camera costs 1000RMB.
