In general where english speakers use the present perfect tense, spanish people use "he tenido" (pretérito perfecto = present perfect in english) too, but latin people use "tuve" (pretérito indefinido= past simple).

Well, you can say "tuve que comprar algo," but not "tuve tenido..." "He tenido que comprar algo" is "I have had to buy something and "tuve que comprar algo" "I had to buy something", (more or less).
