sentence structures on movie info From one hot star to another but this time in a role for a movie which was actually good. The movie, (movie title), the idol, Erin, playing the younger version of a girl who reunites with her first love, after 15 years and a law class have passed. what is the predicate of ‘The movie’in the second sentence? and what ‘have passed’? Will you explain the sentence structures and the meaning in plain English?

I am 99% sure that neither of those "sentences" is a sentence. They are simply fragments (pieces) of a sentence. That is why it is so difficult to parse (analyze). I cannot "fix" the first "sentence." Let's see what others say. I shall try to "fix" the second sentence. Maybe we could say: In the movie "Best Friends Forever," Erin playS the younger version of a girl who reunites with her first love after 15 years and a law class have passed. My analysis: 1. The basic sentence is "Erin plays the younger version of a girl who reunites with her first love." 2. "In the movie 'Best Friends Forever' " is a prepositional clause. Some people (including me) would say that it modifies (refers to) the whole sentence. That is, to all the words starting with "Erin." 3. "After 15 years and a law class have passed" is another prepositional phrase. It probably modifies the verb "reunites." That is, it tells us WHEN she reunites with her first love. ***** As you know, every sentence has two parts: a complete subject and a complete predicate. 1. Erin = The subject. 2. plays ...passed. (The complete predicate)

I don't believe these are structured sentences, they sound like transcribed speech. In traditional grammatic theory everything after the Noun "Erin" would be the predicate. Some would break it up like this: In the movie (Movie X) actress Erin, plays the younger version of a girl, who reunites with her first love, after 15 years and a law class have passed. Some would argue that "the younger version of a girl" is a noun phrase, and that "reunites with" is a prepositional phrase. Law class and 15 years would not be prepositions. so in this one it's "plays", "reunites with" and "have passed" that are the prepositions. While "Erin", "the younger version of a girl", "her first love" "a law class" "15 years" are noun phrases. There are two differing theories on what makes a predicate. I am not sure I got the second one right. It's way too confusing and you should study other grammar points, before going after disputed ones. In the second sentence 15 years and a law class have passed. Meaning 15 years and the time it takes for a law class. 15 years + 1 law class. What it probably means is that within those 15 years a law class was completed. (within that time the subject completed a law class). It was important, like noting that within the last 10 years you've moved or became married (it didn't take all 10 of those years, but it was so significant in needed to be mentioned as part of the time frame). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predicate_%28grammar%29
