It's hard to say that "me and you" is incorrect because we hear it so often in song lyrics and everywhere. But it's more grammatically correct to say "You and I" when it's the subject in a sentence and "You and me" when it's a complement. For example: - You and I should get together for lunch some time. - This land was made for you and me.

It is "You and I" simply because "I" is used at the beginning of a sentence and subjects are grammatically placed at the beginning. \ ***Subjects can be placed at the end with the right wording. "i " is used when it functions as a subject (Alex and i were the last to join in) "me " is used when it functions as an object (he wanted maria and me to join in) the order isn't much important when objects (he invited me & maria/maria & me but it is when functioning as subject (adressing someone it starts by YOU AND I.....) Ex. They wouldn't listen to her or me when I said we couldn't go with them.

^That. I want to further point out that "you and me" is typically reserved for speech. In writing, use "us" instead (when you're using it as the object of the sentence).
