What is the difference, if any, between marsh, slough and swamp?
What is the difference, if any, between marsh, slough and swamp?
All three words get translated to the Dutch word 'moeras'. A 'moeras' for me is an area with a lot of water, pounds, quick sand. You have to be careful where you walk, you could drown and there are a lot of insects, especially mosquitos and in the tropics you can get malaria.

I just looked it up. Swamps apparently have trees while marshes don't. Marshes have more grass/reeds/luscious plants. A slough/slue is a stagnant marsh or swamp. There are many different types of "wetlands." Generally if we had to pick one word to understand the similar meaning we would probably choose "swamp." A "swampy" area seems to encompass the same idea you have for "moeras."
