All of these words categorising things or people by their similar characteristics.
Sort / Type- Informal and only requires a general response
Example; what sort of music do you enjoy? (answer would be general; Rock)
Kind - Informal but more specific
Example; What kind of phone do you have? (answer would be specific; iphone)

They mean almost the same thing and can be used interchangeably. You can say "What kind/type/sort of music do you like?" (Rock? Pop? R&B?) "What kind/type/sort of person is she?" (Nice? Smart? Fun? Hard working?)

Kind is a strang word..Has double meaning! First to describe what type of person someone is..For example:
"He is a kind man" Also to define something.. such as
"what kind of clothes should i bring to Turkey?" kind means what "type" of clothes here.
"What sort of clothes should i take..... etc etc" the response would be the same.. Bring summer clothes. Sort and Type can also be used to ask "What sort/type/kind of person is he?"
