What is the difference between 'laufen' and 'rennen'?
What is the difference between 'laufen' and 'rennen'? In the dictionary they both say 'run'.

I use "laufen" for medium speed (e.g. jogging) and "rennen" when I want to refer to high speed, like a sprint or a race.
BTW - In the north of Germany "laufen" could also mean to walk.

Actually, if someone is running then you would ask:
Warum springst du?
laufen = on foot
It can mean "walk" or "run".
rennen = to race
