Konacha (residual green tea) 4. Hojicha (roasted green tea) 5. Genmaicha (green tea with roasted brown rice) 6. Oolongcha (a type of Chinese tea) 7. Kocha (black tea) 8. Javaid's answer above is very good. Basically, "tea" is not that simple in Japan. They have a very long tea history and culture. So, here is the basic breakdown: green tea = o-cha black tea = koucha Everything else will fall into one of those categories.

In addition, Katakana are used to write foreign and loanwords, so you can say "tea" as Japanese. Generally, this refers to western such as black tea.
