Pocketbook and/or Purse is just a word for a small bag people carry around, usually female, to keep their things in. Its basically a small bag that a woman carries to contain her basic personal accoutrements. Though, when using the word purse, you could be referring to a much larger bag with the same purpose, to hold ones things.
