the usage of の日
昨日は休みの日ではありませんでした。
(Yesterday was not a vacation day.)
Could somebody tell me the usage of の日 in this sentence please?

の日 isn't a word.
休み=vacation
日=day
To say "vacation day", you have to put の between 休み and 日, so it becomes 休みの日. Because の connects between the two nouns (休み and 日).
