The set phrase is 'broaden one's mind'.
'Widen' tends to be used in literal senses eg to widen a road.

Only in common use. I have never heard "widen one's mind" but the meaning is exactly the same as "broaden one's mind". We say "broaden your horizons", "broaden your mind", or more commonly "open your mind".
