This is my standard advice to new Korean learners - a rather opinionated one :-) 1. Learn the Korean alphabet (한글). There are many YouTube videos and other Internet sites that teach you very well. It will take you a few days to a week at most. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqFGHMxWtYk (hangul, short and effective) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZhOeA0RD9o (hangul, words and phrases) 2. Familiarize yourself with Korean sounds (phonetics) by practicing basic words and phrases. The same videos and Internet sites teach them, but you may also want to invest in good books and teachers as it is rather important. Also start reading and listening to what you like (dramas, songs, news casts,...). 3. Find good Korean grammar and dictionary sites, and/or books, so you can look up things quickly as needed. Set up a popup dictionary tool like Toktogi for your web browser. http://endic.naver.com/?sLn=en (full Kor-Eng online dictionary) http://dic.daum.net/index.do?dic=eng (full Kor-Eng dictionary) http://www.toktogi.com/ (Toktogi popup Kor-Eng dictionary) http://dongsa.net/?search=%ED%95%98%EB%8B%A4 (dongsa.net verb conjugation lookup) http://www.howtostudykorean.com/ (grammar and general study) http://www.talktomeinkorean.com/ (grammar and general study) 4. Continue practicing, doing what you enjoy about learning the language. But I would emphasize reading. In my opinion reading is more important and more effect than any other learning activities. Mix in listening as well, especially news casts since they present vocabulary rich and all around good language. You'll have to work at it diligently for a long time (plan for two to three years) to get satisfactory result. Reading, listening, and grammar study should be the foundational activities, to which you may add your own favorite methods. Don't search for special easy ways or shortcuts - they don't exist.

I've also written the special program for learning new words, and it can be used as an online dictionary at the same time (it's a shell for http://endic.naver.com). If you give me your e-mail, I'll send it.
