I'm looking for clarification between はたらく and しごと:They both appear to mean WORK?

Just a friendly heads up. You will run into this kind of thing a lot in Japanese. There are still another half-dozen or so ways to say work too, by the way. If/when you get into kanji, you will learn that Japanese the different kanji for the exact same word and use the different kanji depending on the intended audience of their message. はたらく is also used to describe the effects of chemicals, if that helps you get a better image in your mind. For example, like saying caffeine raises blood pressure: カフェインは血圧を高める働きをする。 カフェインはけつあつをたかめるはたらきをする。

Hi, as Philip said, しごと is a noun and はたらく is a verb. We also use another verb しごとをする which means "to work" and in literal translation is "do a/the work". I hope this was helpful.
