And Atsu-san's sentence surely sounds natural.
But if you'd like to get some idea to connect sentences, my sentence would be this, using て.:
私はイギリスに住んでいて、独学で日本語を学んでいる／います。
or just simply
私はイギリスで独学で日本語を学んでいる／学んでいます。

この文章でも十分に意味は通じますよ :)　ただ，次の文章の方が，よりわかりやすいと思います．
「私は，イギリスに住んでいます．私の周りには，日本人がいないため，現在，日本語を独学で勉強しています．」
