어디 가요?
When a korean friend asks you "where are you going”. You don’t need to answer your actual destination. You can simply answer “yes”. But it is important to listen to the speaker's tone.
does anyone know how I would translate this in korean, i have an idea, but i'm not sure if i'm right.

"When a Korean friend asks you 'where are you going?', you don’t need to answer your actual destination. You can simply answer “yes”. But it is important to listen to the speaker's tone."
A translation may be like this:
한국인 친구가 "어디 가(요)?"라고 물어보면 가고자 하는 목적지를 말해야 하는 것은 아니다. 단순히 "응[네]" 이라고 대답해도 된다. 그러나 화자의 억양을 주의해 듣는 것이 중요하다.
But the above is only partially true, since "어디 가요?" can mean two different things depending on the intonation:
1) Where are you going? 어디 is stressed and 가요 is flat or lowered.
2) Are you going somewhere? 어디 is not stressed and 가요 is raised, with a slight pause before 가요.
The translated sentence is focusing on the #2 case.
But when "어디 가요?" is asking the destination, one should obviously answer the destination.
