There is/are a lot of cars? hey everybody, can you help me with this silly question in spanish when we want to say that something does exist we say "hay un gato" that means there is a cat but what happens when it is more than one cat do I need to say there are a lot of cats or there is a lot of cats?

For plural ( more than one) use ARE, but for singular ( just one) use IS. Lets give you an example: -This house is stunning ( singular, only one house). -These houses are stunning ( plural, more than one house). Now, lets use the example you provided above: - There is a cat ( one cat). - There are a lot of cats ( more than one). Goodluck!

"There are a lot of cats/cars" is correct, but colloquially people will abbreviate "There are" to "There's".
