squeeze past with a stranger
Does the second part of the following sentence mean "unless you do not mind walking very close to a stranger"
its narrow paths afford passage for no more than one person at a time, unless you happen to fancy attempting an intimate ‘squeeze past’ with a stranger.
It means to pass each other in opposite directions in a narrow space that gives each of you less room than you would generally be comfortable with. Perhaps you have to turn face-to-face to narrow your profile and breathe in to make room.
