회피하다, 피하다, and 빼지 말고 + Verb
- 피하다: avoid - either physically(dodge, duck) or in the behavior(evade difficulties, responsibilities, a person).
- 회피하다: avoid or evade, in the non-physical sense, such as responsibilities, difficult situation or person, etc.
- 빼지 말고: 빼다(evade; withdraw oneself) + -지 말고 (instead of ...) => instead of evading it / shying away.
- 빼다: evade or shy away from an unwanted task, social gathering, etc. (빼다 has many other important meanings)
피하다 is widely used both colloquially and literarily, while 회피하다 is a little more formal and literary.
빼다 is very informal and not appropriate in formal contexts.
Examples:
- 그는 날아오는 편치를 피해 몸을 움츠렸다: He recoiled ducking the punch thrown his way.
- 김 의원은 기자의 질문에 대답을 회피했다: Assemblyman Kim evaded answering the reporter's question.
- 계속 빼지 말고 우리 모임에 나와 봐: Come to our meeting for once instead of evading it every time.
