choosing a right modal verb For example, somebody offers you something, but you are not sure if you are interested because you need to know more details. Which of the following sentences would be better to answer with in this situation: 1. I can be interested in it. 2. I could be interested in it. 3. I may be interested in it. 4. I might be interested in it. I think I would use the 4th variant, but I am not sure if it's the best. I am asking you for advice

Hello Roman, Here both 3 and 4 are possible. 'Might' is a little more tentative (it is less likely that you would be interested) and you would normally qualify your answer by using a clause with if - 'I might be interested if the price was right.' Hope this helps Bob

Out of the four, the fourth is best. "Might" is definitely the word I'd use here.
