What is the meaning of 'double up on things'? They're doubling up on things or going off at tangents - some sort of group training should sort it out.

Usually it means two or more people are doing the same job, and it's unnecessary, because tasks haven't been agreed on in advance. For example, if we're planning a big event, we need to write and send invitations, book a venue, organise food, organise music etc. If we don't talk about it in advance, maybe we'll both call and book different bands. We'd then have to cancel one of them. So basically, we've done way more work than necessary.

Hi David, The phrase "double up" has a variety of meanings. It can mean to (1) expend more effort in doing something (2) multi-task by performing two tasks simultaneously. They're doubling up on things or going off at tangents - some sort of group training should sort it out. The people are trying to do more than they could handle competently. Therefore, they are not solving the problem directly and effectively. Some form of grouping should help to remedy the mess. Hope this helps. Cheers, Lance
