Bosnian Vocabulary - closer to Serbian or Croatian

My Dad is from Bosnia (near Banja Luka) and I always wondered if "Bosnian" was more similar to Croatian or Serbian. Does Bosnian have more Serbian words or Croatian words in common? I would hazard a guess that Bosnian is closer to Serbian having been part of the Ottoman Empire but my own obserbvations would suggest it shares more words in common with Croatian. e.g. Mrkva is one example that comes to mind. Maybe its more regional... My Baba used to always use kruh for bread which is more Croatian I thought.

Dejan, we all used to speak Serbo-Croatian befor the civil war in Bosnia and Hezegowina, because it was quite the same language. It is the same today too. Only the national  politics insist on existing different languages to show the diversity between former Yugoslavia people. So, if you can speak on of them everybody else will understand you. So, do not worry, be happy!

We say "Mrkva" too. You can say mrkva or šargarepa. It's the same.
