습니다만 and 다만
I knew that "저는 공부했어요. 하지만 이해 못 해요 = 저는 공부했지만 이해 못 해요". But is "그녀는 학교에 갔습니다만 저를 안 만났어요" has same meaning with "그녀는 학교에 갔어요. 다만 저를 안 만났어요"? Thanks

I should say you're only partially right.
First of all, the -ㅂ니다만 form is not a contraction of -ㅂ니다. 다만.
('다만' is a special adverb with the meaning of "Except that ...". It is not used widely like "but" in English.
-ㅂ니다만 is a contraction of -ㅂ니다. 그렇지만(but).
-지만 is the most common for connecting a phrase with "but", regardless of the speech style.
So your sentence would be much more natural as:
- 친구는 학교에 갔습니다. 그렇지만 저를 못 만났어요 == 친구는 학교에 갔지만 저를 못 만났어요.
Note the four common sentence endings of 가다 and what happens when they connect with 그렇지만.
As you can see, -지만 is used in all cases because the different speech styles only show up at the end of the sentence.
I hope that answers your question. If not, don't hesitate to ask again.
