Hey guys ,what does it mean ? Go on an excursion .I want to know the function of the excursion word .Thank you

It is similar to trip. It's mainly only used in Britain, and not by all British English speakers.
An excursion is usually a shorter trip, perhaps just a day. "Let's take an excursion to the seaside on Saturday"
