I am not quite sure whether Domasla's reply really provides an answer to your question. One has to distinguish "soweit" from "so weit" and "soviel" from "so viel". "Wie unterscheidet sich(/man)(!) soweit von soviel?" Manchmal sind die Begriffe gleich. "soweit" benutzt man bei Entfernungen (/Distanzen). "soviel" bei Mengen und bei Beträgen (/Geld). Er ist schon so weit gegangen. (Entfernung) Er ist zu weit gegangen. (übertragene Bedeutung, er hat zu viel getan, meistens negativ) Soweit, sogut! (Ich bin mit dem (Zwischen-)Ergebnis zufrieden. Ich akzeptiere es.)
