''Bother''
I have just come across this word in a sentence lately, and the sentence read just like this:
''He was feeling down yesterday, but no one even bothered to ask him why!''
I wonder if ''bothered to'' means the same as ''tried to'' or ''made na effort to'' or ''took the trouble to'' (or something like that) in this sentence.
Could you guys explain the meaning of this word to me?
Thanks in advance.

You're right actually.
'Bothered' in this context is about causing inconvenience/trouble to [oneself]. So 'no one inconvenienced or troubled themselves to ask if he was okay.'

Hi! Yes, you're right. "To bother to do something" means "to make an effort to do something". So in this sentence, it means that no one made an effort/ no one cared to ask him why.
I hope that helps.

The definition of Bothered is to concern oneself or trouble oneself with a task. For example:
“No one bothered to lock the doors.” Meaning no one cared to do it. I hope this answered your question.
