what is the difference between european Portuguese and Brazillian Portuguese languages? i have heard the conversations between my European Portuguese husband and his Brazillian friends, they sound familiar but then when I am in Portugal, some people say certain words or sentence I used are Brazillian way of speaking. So I need to know the difference. Thank you in advance.

A Brazilian guy will have a good conversation with a Portuguese, but some words and expressions are different. For example: In Brazil we have the expression: Legal! (the same as cool! ) but in Portugal they use the expression: Fixe! We have some others differences but it is very hard to say exactly what is this differences. I know that presunto (ham) in Portugal is know as fiambre (Or something like that) but in Brazil just some elders could understand that. The accent is completely different and that is the easy way to identify if someone is from Portugal or Brazil. The way that we structure the sentence is different too. People from Portugal sounds like an old guy talking for a Brazilian because the way that they structure theirs sentences. Finally, I think in Brazil we have a great range of accent and someone from Fortaleza will sounds totally different from someone from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro while all the Portuguese seems to have the same accent (at least from a Brazilian point of view).

I believe the most simple way to explain that difference is, American English and British English is different as Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese, both have different accent, expressions and homophones. You can communicate but we brazilians usually can't understand very well the portuguese accent because all of their sentences usually sound short, and we articulate more the words, we use more our tongue and open more our mouth, so the sound is completely different. We take some time to start undestanding clearly a portuguese person, but they can undertand us easily.

The mainly difference is concerning our accents. We, brazilians, have some african's influences in our accent and ,because of it, that brazilians pronounce more vowels than Portugueses; most foreigners say that brazilian accent sounds like a song. It should be due to the fact of the vowels give us the entonation. Besides, there are lots of different words and similar words with different meanings. If you want to know about it in more details, take a look in these links below. https://www.google.com.br/search?q=brazilian+influenced+banto+language&oq=brazilian+influenced+banto+language&aqs=chrome..69i57j33.26395j0j4&client=tablet-android-samsung&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8 https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/difference-between-brazilian-and-european-portuguese
