Which one is correct? 1. I have gone to Paris several times. 2. I have been to Paris several times. I suppose the second one is correct because "gone to" is usually used for third person and it means that the person at the moment of speaking is there. For instance; "my father has gone to China." But when we say "I have been to Paris several times", it means that we went there and came back. (As a life experience) I'm on the the fence about the first sentence whether or not we can use it as a life experience. please correct me if I'm wrong. And is it unfinished time or finished time? I know that present perfect is finished time but here I'm talking about my life experience and my life is not finished(I'm alive). And basically it has not been clarified for me when this tense is finished time. Thanks in advance.

Hello, the second option is grammatically correct, for the reasons you have said. Although I do think I have heard the first option used. present perfect = life experiences - we don't know when you went to Paris - and you are talking about that experience (or those experiences) in your life so far, which are finished, not your life! i guess second sentences is correct , because have been meaning is "be found" nearly. But first sentences is meaning : you will a lot of make a plan for go Paris.

I'm a native English speaker (American), and I use the "gone to" construct often. (The "have been to" construct sounds a bit formal to me---but hey, maybe that's just me). My advice is to not overthink this one. Most native English speakers would be pressed to understand the difference between both constructions.
