How to find out new topics for everyday self-talk? I would like to have regular self-talk to practise my oral English everyday, but I find it's difficult to pick out an appropriate topic. Since I have normal daily routines, I always talk with repeated topics and use a group of similar words. How can I find out new topics that are related ro my daily life? Thank you for anyone who can answer this question.

Hello Beth, It depends a little on who you are talking to but here are a few ideas: short videos (send the link and discuss) news items (depends where you are in the world, mostly I use BBC news for simple articles and TIME magazine for higher level) If you are intermediate or above, ted.com talks are great (and usually also have a transcript in Chinese and English) I hope this helps! Hi Beth. :) When we speak to our friends and family, usually there is a topic that comes up that keeps us busy to chat. Can the same not work for your English-learning? For example, if you watched a movie, you might discuss it with a friend. If you went out and saw something funny, you might call someone on the phone and tell someone about it. If you went to a sporting event, you might talk about the game while you're there. These are all natural things we talk about each day with our friends and families. For my personal example, my mother likes to call me every day to talk about my granny's health. So you can imagine the things we might say to each other. My granny can't hear, can't remember, and doesn't eat much. These are things a lot of people know how to say when they're learning a new language. "She can't hear." It's simple language, but it's how we communicate.

Try talking about the things you are interested in. Like, yesterday, I was walking past a market and I saw someone cut the head off of a fish. I found it both disgusting and strangely satisfying at the same time. Maybe because I was hungry. or, pick a topic you are interested in: I love music. what instrument did you learn? do you still play? why? why not? What other hobbys are you into? Cooking, reading, connecting with friends, work, hopes, dreams, desires...
