I think that Japanese people haven't had enough speech trainings. When I was in university, we had a lot of opportunities to speak in front of others. I like to do that, but other didn't think so. Some students looked sulky whereas some students were frivolous. In addition. I wasn't sure where they looked at while speaking. I think that looking directly up at listeners and seeing straight are the least manner of speech. I was really disgusted about my classmates and swore not to degrade myself. Even if I'm not good at explaining something in front of people, I'd rather be stately. It's my pride.
