The second one is correct. You could also say "Why doesn't Erik go to work?" and be correct.

'Why Erik doesn't go to work' is incorrect because doesn't would go before Erik.
Contracted negative verbs (can't, won't, doesn't, don't etc) are placed in the place the verb would be in the sentence not "not"
Why can I not go?
Why can't I go?
Why does he not sing?
Why doesn't he sing?
Are we not going?
Aren't we going?
